When you keep your filter healthy, it keeps your water safe. Clean your filter after every 20L bucket of water used, or at least once per day to help maintain flow rate.

Clean plastic water bottle with threads (if using a cleaning coupling)

Before You Start

Have a clean workspace ready.

Wash your hands with soap and water.

Step 01

Cleaning plunger method: Filter a cup of water

Cleaning plunger method: Filter a cup of water

Filter one last cup of water to use for backwashing.

Tip: Make sure to use a clean cup.

Step 02

Cleaning plunger method: Fill plunger with clean water

Fill the cleaning plunger with the filtered water in the cup.

Step 03

Cleaning plunger method: Backwash the filter

Cleaning plunger method: Backwash the filter

Remove the filter cap and insert the plunger onto the tip of the filter. Use the palm of your hand to backwash the filter with force into the dirty bucket. Repeat 3 times or until the water runs clear.

Tip: Discard the backwashed water.

Step 04

Cleaning coupling method: Fill up bottle with clean water

Cleaning coupling method: Fill up bottle with clean water

Fill a clean, threaded plastic bottle with filtered water.

Step 05

Cleaning coupling method: Connect the bottle to the filter

Cleaning coupling method: Connect the bottle to the filter

With the filter still connected to the hose, screw the cleaning coupling onto the drinking side of the filter. Then screw the bottle of filtered water onto the cleaning coupling.

Step 06

Cleaning coupling method: Backwash the filter

Cleaning coupling method: Backwash the filter

Tip the bottle upside down and squeeze forcefully to backwash the filter into the dirty bucket. Repeat until the water runs clear and easily.

Tip: Discard the backwashed water.
